Most people commute to work every day, either on foot or by private or public transportation. The commuting cost calculator provides valuable insights and helps you discover new ways to save money.
It lets you calculate exactly how much you spend on your commute or other regular routes and compare the cost of traveling by car with public transportation.
π Commute Cost Calculator

π Car
π Public Transport
Monthly breakdown
Annual projection
How is this calculated?
Car monthly cost = ((distance Γ 2 Γ days) Γ· 100 Γ fuel consumption Γ fuel price) + (parking Γ days) + fixed costs
Public transport monthly cost = monthly pass (if > 0), otherwise ticket price Γ trips per day Γ working days
Savings = the higher cost minus the lower cost. Annual figures multiply monthly by 12. Fixed car costs (insurance, maintenance) are included as a flat monthly amount you provide.
The formula that our commute cost calculator used:
| π Car / month | (km Γ 2 Γ days Γ· 100 Γ fuel consumption Γ fuel price) + (parking Γ days) + fixed costs |
| π PT / month | Monthly pass (if set) β otherwise ticket price Γ trips/day Γ working days |
| π° Savings | Difference between the two; Γ 12 for annual |
Fixed costs (insurance + maintenance) are user-supplied as a flat monthly figure β no depreciation model, which keeps inputs honest and simple.
In addition, this tool helps you make the right decision in many situations. For example, it can help you compare two job openings, one of which requires commuting to the other side of town while the other offers the option to work from home.
